Birmingham AI Startups Linq and KrillPay Launch Products After 2024 Funding
Firms including Linq and KrillPay move ahead with products backed by capital raised this year.
How we reported this

Birmingham startups secured fresh capital in 2026 to develop AI messaging and payment platforms, with Linq closing a $20 million round for its AI messaging product.
The city's tech sector expanded 20 percent over the past five years, a pace tied to established hubs and annual gatherings that draw more than 1,000 founders and investors. This growth sets the stage for product work already funded by local and regional investors, rather than distant speculation.
Innovation Depot anchors daily operations
Innovation Depot downtown currently houses between 50 and 100 startups and has backed more than 100 companies since its founding, among them Fleetio and the ecommerce firm Shipt that sold to Target for $550 million in 2017. The facility functions as the main gathering point for teams refining code and preparing launches.
SLOSS.Tech, held each year at the same downtown site, brings founders together for sessions that often produce follow-on partnerships and pilot programs. The event schedule has remained consistent even as new AI and payments ventures occupy space inside the building.
Recent capital supports targeted product work
Halogen Ventures placed more than $1 million across Alabama companies with Birmingham connections, including KrillPay and earlier bets on Nyad and Accelerate Wind. Linq's 2026 round and parallel activity at VeroSkills and KrillPay show capital moving directly into AI messaging and payment infrastructure.
These investments build on the same local networks that produced the two homegrown unicorns. Teams at the Depot now focus on integrating the new funding into working prototypes rather than broad announcements.
Founders and investors will continue meeting at Innovation Depot and SLOSS.Tech to test features and line up pilot customers, following the pattern that supported earlier exits and growth rounds.
